DEMIDEVIL, (stylized in all caps), is the debut mixtape by American singer-songwriter and rapper Ashnikko. After many scheduling changes, the project was ultimately released on January 15, 2021[1], through Parlophone Records and Warner Music Group.
The mixtape was preceded by three singles, "Cry" featuring Grimes, "Daisy", and "Deal With It" featuring Kelis. Two post-release singles were dropped later, being "Drunk With My Friends" and "Slumber Party" featuring Princess Nokia.

Release & Promotion[]
After Ashnikko's hiatus since the release of her third extended play (EP), Hi, It's Me, she would return with the single, "Tantrum", on March 6, 2020. Originally intended as the lead single for the mixtape, the song would later be demoted to a stand-alone single due to a error she made when sending the mixtape's tracklist to her label.[2] The "demidevil" character was first portrayed in the "Tantrum" music video alongside Ashnikko herself with another character titled "Little Blue". Later, the character name's would be revealed to be the title of the mixtape.
Ashnikko first teased the mixtape in a series of videos in which she is gradually turning into her "demidevil" alter ego, with the last of the three videos revealing the cover art, tracklist, and release date for the mixtape. Ashnikko coincidingly, officially announced the mixtape on August 28, 2020, via her social media to be released on October 8 of the same year.[3]
Days later, Ashnikko on September 16, announced that the project's launch would be changed to November 9, 2020 due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic.[4]
hey bb demidevils, sad COVID-related news for my mixtape, due to shipping delays & loads of other bs, the mixtape is being pushed back to friday november 13th. im sorry for the delay but i do think its fitting that my baby is born friday the 13th. ilysm 😈💕 she is worth the wait
After a month, on October 21st, Ashnikko would return with more news about the release of the mixtape. Now, she decided to change the release date of DEMIDEVIL to February 16th of the following year, due to her wanting to spend more time with her family and not being well enough to promote the project she referred to as "her proudest body of work". She wrote:[5]
“ | Hello beautiful babies of the web. I want to start this handwritten note saying a massive fucking thank youuuu to everyone that has shown support to my dumbass this year. 2020 has been fucking weird!! Like most of you, I can't wait for the year from the slimiest pits of hell be over. For the COVID's bitch ass to be gone!! To be blunt, I've made the executive decision (cuz I'm an executive lol) to move the release of DEMIDEVIL to my birthday, February 19th, 2021. I just don't want to put it out this year. I want to vote the orange fascist piece of shit out of the office, spend time with my family, and throw my fucking phone into the fucking ocean.
I know a lot of you have preordered the mixtape, and this may be a disappoinment, but with everything else going on, I'm not on the best mental space to be releasing and promoting my proudest body of work. I'm so proud of it!! I'm ssoooo proud! Which is why I have to push it back and give myself more time to give you the best version of me. The best most exciting release. The love and support you've shown me this year, especially on "Daisy", has been overwhelming. I can't thank you enough!! I get to do what I love more than anything in the world as a job?!?!!!? I'm a big blubbering crybaby fool! As a thank you to everyone who has pre-ordered, I'll be sending out your merch in November!!! I've been sitting on some of these songs for years & can't wait to share them with you all. I'm planning the stupidest most ridiculous & extravagant for the new week of release. I love you all!! Sorry I suck but it'll be worth it! |
